| My name is Jane and I live with my husband of 30yrs, Ian, on a property in the middle of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. We grow wheat and sheep. We live off grid, so no mains power, we have a solar array, with a small wind generator and a back up diesel generator. Most visitors never even realise that we don't have mains, it doesn't really interfere with our lifestyle at all. We also re-use most of our grey water from the washing machine and shower water, so have to use garden friendly soaps etc, which is pretty easy.
We also have another farm at Poochera which is 200kms West of Kimba, which does have mains power.
My interest in wool started as a child when I learnt to knit at 8yrs old.

| When I moved to Kimba with my husband, I helped out in the shearing shed and just loved the sheep.
I learnt to spin from a friend, and just couldn't get enough. I collected a few unwanted black sheep from farmers, and spun and knitted garments for a number of years.

| Eventually children came along and life became too hectic for spinning and knitting!
The spinning wheel left the loungeroom, and I just knitted for the children.
When the children got older, I was still knitting, but now it cost an arm and a leg to buy the yarn.
I decided that It was time to oil up my spinning wheel and spin my own yarn again. We still had plenty of sheep!
When the children left home, I found I could spend much more time with my fibre and yarn dyeing.
There is an endless varieties of colours to play with and create wonderful colourways.

| Over the last few years I have gradually changed our flock of sheep, and now run a separate mob of coated sheep, for spinning fleeces. I have approx 40 coloured sheep:- Merinos, Corriedales, English LeicesterXCorriedales, Romney X's,and the beautiful English Leicesters. Plus quite a few white coated sheep, English Leicester X Merino, and also a few ELX's
We have quite a little stud of English Leicesters now, with approx 15 ewes put to our English Leicester Ram (Freddie) in 2011. Hopefully lots of cute lambs will be arriving in August/September.
We also run a commercial flock of 200 Merino ewes which we put to White Suffolk rams.
Up at our other farm at Poochera we run a small stud of SAMM sheep, and also approx 400 merino ewes which are currently lambing to the SAMM rams.

| I never fail to be fascinated with wool and fibre, and the endless variety available.
I just love the wonderful creative people it brings into my life.
